Biographical Sketch

Paul M. Ridker, MD, MPH, FACC, FAHA, received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Ridker is the Eugene Braunwald Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School.  He is also Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. 

In 2003, Dr. Ridker was named Reynolds Investigator and Co-Director of the Reynolds Center for Cardiovascular Research at the Harvard Medical School.  In 2003, Dr. Ridker’s work led to the first set of federal guidelines advocating C-reactive protein (CRP) evaluations as a new method for cardiovascular disease detection.

Dr. Ridker has published more than 190 original reports, 90 reviews and book chapters, and 3 textbooks related to cardiovascular medicine.  He is a consulting editor for Circulation and an editorial board member of several major journals.

Dr. Ridker is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, American Epidemiological Society, and American Association of Physicians.

Citing his pioneering work on inflammation, CRP, and atherothrombosis, Time Magazine honored Dr. Ridker as one of America’s Ten Best Researchers in Science and Medicine in 2001.
