Biographical Sketch

MacRae F. Linton, MD, obtained his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. Following his internship and residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, he did his subspecialty training in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of California-San Francisco (USCF). He was a Research Fellow of the Cardiovascular Research Institute at UCSF and did his research training and became a faculty member at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Research at UCSF. Subsequently, he returned to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology in the Division of Endocrinology before becoming an associate professor in that division. He then became an Associate Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and now serves as Co-Director for the Atherosclerosis Research Unit and Director of the Vanderbilt Lipid Clinic.
Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Linton holds memberships in numerous societies, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Heart Association, where he is a Fellow of the Council on Atherosclerosis. He is also a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation. Dr. Linton is an ad hoc reviewer for Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology; Circulation, Diabetes; Journal of Biological Chemistry; Journal of Lipid Research; and Journal of Clinical Investigation. His most recent publications focus on the role of the macrophage in atherosclerosis.
Dr. Linton's research in lipoprotein metabolism and atherosclerosis has been recognized by several national awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and the American Heart Association's Irvine H. Page Award for Atherosclerosis Research.
