Biographical Sketch
Dervilla M. McCann, MD, FACC, is a cardiologist and partner at Androscoggin Cardiology Consultants in Auburn, Maine, and Maine Research Associates. She is the medical director of "Take Charge," a community outreach screening and wellness program designed to reach underserved populations. Her practice includes noninvasive cardiology, with a particular emphasis on nuclear and echo cardiac and vascular imaging. Her private practice has a large clinical research division and currently participates in more than 40 ongoing studies involving cardiovascular pharmacologic agents, implantable devices, and gene therapy. She holds staff positions at St. Mary's Medical Center, Central Maine Medical Center, and Maine Medical Center.
Dr. McCann is a graduate of Bates College, Lewiston, Maine, and Tufts Medical School, Boston, Mass. She trained in internal medicine at New York University/Bellevue Medical Center and received her cardiology training while serving in the armed forces at San Diego Naval Hospital. She attained the rank of Commander and served as the CCU director at Bethesda Naval Hospital prior to completing her service with the Navy in 1996.
Dr. McCann has served as a speaker and consultant to the American Heart Association (AHA), the Annual Congress on Women’s Health, the Maine Emergency Medical Technician Association, and the Maine Department of Public Health, as well as for pharmaceutical companies such as Merck, Pfizer, Bayer, and AstraZeneca. She is president of the board of the Capital Area Branch of the AHA, and is a member of the board of the Maine Cardiovascular Health Council, the National Lipid Education Council, and the Medical Advisory Board of the DuPont Corporation.
