Biographical Sketch

Peter P. Tóth, MD, PhD, is a visiting clinical associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Illinois School of Medicine. Dr. Toth practices at the Sterling Rock Falls Clinic in Sterling, Illinois, where he is the director of preventive cardiology. He is also the chief of medicine and vice chief of cardiovascular medicine at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, Illinois. Dr. Tóth received a PhD degree in biochemistry from Michigan State University in East Lansing and an MD degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. He completed residency training in family medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Tóth is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice and a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the International College of Angiology, the American Heart Association (Council on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology), and the American College of Cardiology. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, Sigma Xi, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Tóth has authored and coauthored more than 100 articles and chapters in medical and scientific journals and textbooks. Journals in which his articles have been published include Circulation, Current Opinion in Cardiology, Current Opinion in Lipidology, The Journal of Biological Chemistry, Disease-a-Month, Progress in Cardiovascular Diseases, and The Journal of Pediatric Surgery, among others. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Applied Research in Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics. He is also a section editor for Current Atherosclerosis Reports and a member of the editorial boards for Lipids Online, Mosby's Drug Consult, Primary Care Special Edition, and Practical Lipid Management.
Dr. Tóth has lectured throughout the United States on many areas of cardiovascular medicine. He has been cited in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
