Biographical Sketch

D. Roger Illingworth, MD, PhD, is professor of medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Clinical Nutrition at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. Dr. Illingworth is also chief of the Section of Clinical Nutrition and Lipid Metabolism and director of the Lipid Disorders Clinic. His clinical specialty is disorders of lipid metabolism.

Dr. Illingworth obtained a PhD degree in biochemistry at the University of Liverpool and an MS degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Illingworth’s research has focused on disorders of lipid and lipoprotein metabolism, and he has published 159 articles in peer-reviewed journals together with 37 book chapters or reviews.

Dr. Illingworth is a member of the editorial board of Atherosclerosis and has served as a manuscript reviewer for numerous medical journals, including The Lancet, The New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation, and The Journal of Clinical Investigation. He served on a National Institutes of Health study section and was a member of the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) Adult Treatment Panel I, which published its recommendations on detection, evaluation, and treatment of high blood cholesterol in adults in 1988, and was a member of the NCEP Adult Treatment Panel III, which published its updated guidelines in 2001.

Dr. Illingworth is a member of the Council on Arteriosclerosis of the American Heart Association and of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
