Biographical Sketch

Brent M Egan, MD, received his medical degree from the University of Michigan, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hypertension.

Dr. Egan is Head of the Hypertension Section in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Dr. Egan is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Inter-American Society of Hypertension, International Society on Hypertension in Blacks, and International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids. He serves as vice president of the American Society of Hypertension.

Dr. Egan has published more than 200 original papers, review articles, and abstracts. He is a member of the editorial board for many journals, including Hypertension, Journal of Human Hypertension, Ethnicity & Disease, Journal of Clinical Hypertension, and Current Hypertension Reviews. His research interests include cardiovascular disease in different ethnic populations and hypertension and its connection to obesity and insulin resistance.

Dr. Egan is the recipient of the International Society of Hypertension in Blacks Distinguished Researcher Award for 2005 and has been included in the Best Doctors list from 1998 to 2006.

Faculty Disclosure Statement

Dr. Egan has disclosed that he has received research support and has served on advisory/review panels for Novartis and AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.  He has also served as a speaker and consultant for Pfizer Inc. and GlaxoSmithKline.
